Possible: I was asked this questions years ago by a patient, and then I told him "No". He had tattoos done using typical techniques and dyes in the USA. However, there are many substances used for tattoos now around the world, and some contain metals which may interact with the MRI. So now I would say "maybe". If you have pain in your tattoo area with MRI, it should only be at the area of the tattoo.
