Pleurisy: Pain on one side of the chest that is worse with deep breathing can be a sign of pleurisy which is inflammation of the lining of the lung. This is usually the result of a viral infection. If you have a fever as well then there is the possibility of pneumonia and an x-ray should be done. Regardless, I would see a doctor for an exam.
