Kidney disease: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) has 5 stages. The higher the stage of kidney disease the more diet limitation you have.Kidney function in Stage 1 is over 90%,in stage 2 is 60-90%,stage 3 is 30-60%,stage 4 is 20-30%,stage 5 is less than 20%.Generally in stages 4&5 you retain phosphorus and potassium and have to limit the high phosphorus and potassium containing foods including Sodas. Kidney function: With type 2 diabetes and elevated BP along with increased creatinine indicating sluggish kidney function,it is important to control your diabetes and blood pressure in order to avoid further kidney damage. Drinking too much diet soda takes in too much sodium which aggravates your hypertension.

Nothing good in soda: I'm not sure what your Dr was focused on but high creatinine suggests kidney disease which is a complication of both HTN and DM. There is nothing good about soda. The sugar and sodium in soda will make both worse.

Good idea: Hi. Soda is total trash that somehow corporate America has foisted on us (well, not me) and the rest of the world. Depending on how high your creatinine is and if you're gearing up for dialysis, phosphate will become a big problem for you (dialysis does't handle phosphate well). Ditch the soda. Oh, and only dark sodas have phosphate (COLAS mostly, but also Dr. Pepper, etc...all TRASH). Good luck!
