During winter my nose gets very dry if i dont run the humidifier on high, but wife gets stuffy during humid days in summer. ideas as to difference?

Yes: Many people complain of dryness (not just nose, but skin too) in the winter because of the heat; a humidifier is very helpful. Your wife probably has allergies. She can get tested and/or take allergy medication. She may also benefit from air condiitioning, which filters out allergens in the air. Another helpful device is a hepa (high-efficiency particulate air) filter.
