not necessary: While a humidifier can increase the moisture in the air, it can also promote dust mite growth and if not cleaned properly, lead to mold growth and dispersion. Treatment for runny nose should be aimed at the underlying cause--allergy, sinus infection, etc. If symptoms are chronic, consider seeing an allergist to find out specifically what the trigger is.
