Follow the advise: of your doctor , if more people control blood pressure and blood sugar then we will be seeing less heart attacks and less strokes ,must be a reason to add Alpha blocker . You will be calm if your B P is controlled . I also give hard time to my doc then follow, you have other option ,get 2nd opinion , your doctor will not object .
