Short of breath?: D-dimer is not specific for a pulmonary embolus (PE). Many things can elevate it. If you do not have chest pain, are not short of breath and can walk/run/execise normally, you don't have any reason for a CT scan. Why was test done? CT for PE involves radiation and exposure to IV contrast which can injure the kidneys. With no symptoms, all you get is risk-no benefit.
