Hard to say: The long term data is not in.There is some suspicion that people can develop this and other neurologic symptoms after a variety of infectious agents.Strep is one but other illnesses including viruses have been linked in sporadic cases.The illnesses are thought to trigger antibodies that may attack normal brain pathways and cause symptoms. The rarity of the process makes research difficult.
