A member asked:

Are there foods to avoid consuming if someone has hyperthyroidism?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Mostly no: If you are hyperthyroid, you will need more calories to maintain your weight. Eat a balanced diet. You should avoid foods with very high iodine content, such as seaweed and kelp. Iodine at this point could stimulate the thyroid, and it is possible your doctor will want to give you radioactive iodine at some point, and the high iodine load from food will dilute the treatment.
