Not random: Your dentist is probably communicating to his/her assistant what periodontal pocket depths are being measured. There's no need for you to guess as to the status or your oral health. Ask your dentist for a detailed explanation. Your dentist would most probably discuss the status of your periodontal condition with you, but since each of us communicates differently, I cannot say.

No Guessing!: Pockets that measure 3 mm to 5 mm indicate signs of disease. If you have periodontal disease, your dentist recommend the appropriate treatment or may refer you to a periodontist.
