Take the antibiotics: Only go to a doctor you trust and then you do not have to second guess the treatment. Your doctor recommended appropriate medication. There is a lot of allergies to the very old drugs you are sugesting which also causes the worst stomach pain imaginable.

Effective/safe: Cipro (ciprofloxacin) is a generally safe and effective antibiotic. I advise taking it on a full stomach.

So tell your doctor: If you want to be on Bactrim, tell him. Unless your bacteria is resistant to the drug, he will probably prescribe it for you. You can take Cipro (ciprofloxacin).
