A member asked:

I have a fear of heart attack.. got all the checkups done and all are negative. no family hisotry.can u ensure tht excercise would keep me away frm it?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Unreasonable.: Fear is unfounded. Risk of heart disease within next 10 years is extremely low. Risk of dying or being injured from accidents, alcohol, or recreational activities is far greater. Reasons for misperception of risk are complex and should be explored with someone who can help you work through it. Regular exercise reduces risk, but since initial risk is very low there will be little net benefit.
