Clots: normally clots start in the legs and can break off and travel to the lungs. They won't go the other direction since that's against the flow of the blood. Blood thinners are used to treat clots and if there is not a good explanation for the clots then labs can be done to see if there are problems with the blood causing the clots to occur.
