A member asked:

Please tell me can gram-negative bacteria test be positive in a catalase test, even if catalase tests are meant for gram-positive bacteria?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Catalase enzyme: Yes -many, many bacteria possess catalase. Classically the catalase test was used to distinguish Staph (+) from Strep (-), but there is a long list of bacteria that have it... includin Listeria, C diphtheriae, Burkholderia cepacia, Nocardia, the family Enterobacteriaceae (Citrobacter, E. coli, Enterobacter, Klebsiella, Shigella, Yersinia, Proteus, Salmonella, Serratia), Pseudomonas etc.
