A member asked:

2 years ago my mother went into surgery to take out her left thyroid gland. now the doctor said the right one is starting to grow. surgery or medicine?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Half thyroid: If half the thyroid is removed, it is normal for the other half to get bigger to compensate. Also, if the "problem" originally was a nodular thyroid, that problem usually affects both sides, even if the right side looked normal at the time. Your mother needs to see an endocrinologist who does thyroid ultrasound and biopsy.
