Half thyroid: If half the thyroid is removed, it is normal for the other half to get bigger to compensate. Also, if the "problem" originally was a nodular thyroid, that problem usually affects both sides, even if the right side looked normal at the time. Your mother needs to see an endocrinologist who does thyroid ultrasound and biopsy.
