Salt and bread: Unless you like outside the us and in one of a very few countries, it is difficult to become iodine deficient. Leafy vegetables, iodized salt, multivitamins w/iodine, and bread (as long as it's mass produced in a factory) are all sources of iodine. Thyroid hormone can also shrink the thyroid. For many (or even most) people, proper treatment should eliminate the need for surgery which has risks.
