Follow-up needed: A neck mass at your age is usually an enlarged lymph node. These can enlarge for many reasons, but if the mass has not reduced in size (as it would during a resolving infection), it should be biopsied. Needle biopsy sometimes does not yield a diagnosis and then a formal node biopsy should be done. Also, your doctor may want to do a scan to determine if other lymph nodes are enlarged.
