Some calcification on lower right thyroid with a 3.2x1.7cm mass beside it. are my chances of cancer greater with this? needle biopsy next week.

Thyroid disorder: It's a good plan to get a needle biopsy for the mass.I suspect that the calcification you refer to is actually part of the thyroid mass rather than next to it, but regardless the mass does require biopsy.The diagnosis of cancer is something that is best to await a tissue biopsy before speculation of the diagnosis.It is certainly concerning for a male your age to have a large calcified thyroid mass.

FNA needed: Calcifications themselves do not necessarily mean that there is cancer. The best course of action is to proceed with the fna (fine needle aspiration or needle biopsy) that you are scheduled to have.
