CT scan: Yes, scan 2 months later will be compared to determine whether or not the lesion is growing.

Do wait: 5 cm mass in mesentery of bowel is smaller than 2 inches. Unless there is a primary lesion that is suspected of spreading , this is a lymph node possibly secondary to inflammation . Occassionaly lipoSa's of mesentery, Kaposi Sa, or primary lymphoma can be found in mesentery. Follow up scan will show no progression or regression. If more lesions or a larger one seen then excisional bx needed.
