Rare combination: There is a rare inherited condition termed usher's syndrome in which the retinal degenerates (retinitis pigmentosa) and there is an associated nerve deafness. Quite tragic but uncommon. Of course old folks might lose some vision and hearing from independent events and rubella can also do this but these are not hereditary.
