Ear drum perf.: Perforation of tympanic membrane is very common in children esp after direct impact injury, chronic ear infections. In fact it is the therapeutic choice in children with chronic , recurrent ear infections; when we send them to ENT for myringotomy tubes placement. Perforation of membrane, whether happens naturally or therapeutically, has a tendency to repair on itself. It takes anywhere from 4-6 wks.

Varies: This is common in early childhood. It can occur when an infection pushes through the drum or from acoustic trauma. Smaller prefs can seal up over a day or two but infection may delay this. Most would heal on their own eventually, but some mostly the larger ones will require reconstruction.
