Yes: you should be able to. Get yourself some time to heal up, and for symptoms to resolve. This does not mean you may not have recurrence of your symptoms. If it recurs, you treat it the same way you treated this episode, and with each recurrence (if any), surgery is the last resort, if conservative management fails to work.

Weeks to Months: Generally most people can get relief from sciatic pain doing the conservative care within 3-6 weeks. If it persists after that, it can take up to 6 months to heal by itself. You may still be a candidate for epidural steroid injections that may help relieve the pain while your body heals itself. Likely you will return to playing sports, just will take some time to heal.
