Why do vegetarians often get cancer?

Depends on what: you mean by often. Vegetarians do not get cancer more often than non-vegetarians. There are many factors in the causation of cancer; important ones being: heredity, use of tobacco and alcohol, obesity, exposure to chemicals and radiation etc.

Offers no protection: You'll be told that a vegetarian diet offers protection from everything. This is made up by disinformation zealots. It's not true. Vegetarianism is the moral high ground, but the big well-controlled studies have shown no benefit in terms of longevity or in any category of illness. If someone is pressuring you to become a vegetarian, I hope you will make an informed choice. Best wishes.
