Scoliosis: With a 42 degree curve you should be evaluated for possible surgery by an orthopedist. Barring surgery you should at least be in a brace. Discuss proper exercise with the orthopedist or a physical therapist

Yes and no: In general, exercise is good and a core strengthening exercise program can often be helpful in improving mechanical back pain. That being said, exercise has never been definitively shown to have any affect On the size of the curve itself.
