Cortisone shots: Cortisone or steroid shots into an inflamed joint such as a shoulder can be very effective in reducing pain and inflammation. If the pain returns, then additional evaluation and treatment is necessary to determine if there is more damage present other than inflammation, such as a soft tissue tear or other abnormality.
