Is there anything as effective as omeprazole for gerd that doesn't cause b12 deficiency? it has become severe.

GERD : All H2 blockers will interfere with absorption of of other Meds or natural vitamins , by blocking receptors . This is one reason why we recommend taking H2 blockers alone without any other Meds . However have you been checked to see why you have B12 deficiency ? Sometimes you just develop gastric Atrophy and you don't make the intrinsic factor needed to absorb B12 . Occs it is an immune issue .

Yes: Omeprazole is a drug in the so called proton pump inhibitor class where most of them are over the counter now: Lansoprazole or Pantoprazole, for example. If it is believed that Omeprazole is causing you severe B12 deficiency through its class action, then chances are all drugs in the same class may cause it, too. You might need to get your B12 in a different form or try a different class.
