A 38-year-old member asked:

Could my pregnancy have lead to gallbladder problems?

Dr. Alysia Townsend

Yes: During pregnancy there may be significant alteration of function in your digestive tract. For those who have a familial tendency for gallbladder disease or development of stones, decreased mobility/increased stasis or slowing of your gallbladder function will often cause symptoms to appear for the first time. However, pregnancy itself does not alone cause gallbladder disease.

No: It is best to avoid citrus fruits for the first few months. They may be harsh on your baby's maturing gastrointestinal tract. Your baby may become fussy and gassy.
A 21-year-old member asked:

Are there any herbal supplements that can prevent gallstones?

2 doctor answers5 doctors weighed in
Dr. Robert Kwok
Pediatrics 33 years experience
Unfortunately, no: There are thousands of supplements advertised to do all sorts of magical remedies. Very few supplements have real research studies to show benefits (but manufacturers make claims, based on theories, animal tests, testimonials, chemical similarities, etc... But not on real research because real research is hard to do). Herbal supplements have not been shown to prevent or treat gallstones.
A 33-year-old member asked:

Is a catheter needed for gallbladder surgery?

It depends: Whether a urinary catheter is needed depends on the length of the operation as well as surgeon preference. Sometimes a catheter is placed for the operation only and removed before a patient wakes up from anesthesia. If the operation is uncomplicated and only involves taking out the gallbladder, then this is usually short enough to not need a catheter.

Why is my 2 year old daughters stool always a shade of green? I rarely give her juice or food coloring so it cannot be the dye...

Normal!: It is not uncommon in some children. If the stool is formed , child is growing i would not worry about it. It is often from green leafy vegetables, coloring agents in the food or simply due to rapid transit from small intestine to large intestine where it normally is tuned brown.
