Avoid refined carbs (simple sugars, juices, processed grains...stick to whole grains) Watch salt intake and processed foods intake and canned foods (high in sodium) Fresh veggies, fresh fruit 30-60 min of exercise at least 5x/week Regular check ups, Keep eye on cholesterol and HgbA1C (diabetes screening test)

Guard your health: First, abandon the idea that vegetarianism will protect you from any serious illness. Despite all the huckstering, the big studies show no benefit in longevity or any major category of illness once we control for the other healthy habits that vegetarians tend to have. Stay fit, maintain your health, eat sensibly, and comply with your physician's advice. It's what my fellow-physicians do. Cheers.
