Oophorectomy: If your risk of ovarian cancer is high, it is possible to remove the ovaries (oophorectomy) to prevent ovarian cancer. This is a rather drastic measure that is not normally done except in unusual circumstances. Removing your second ovary will cause immediate and sudden menopause, but the symptoms can be managed with hormone treatments. Discuss this with your gynecologist.
