Either: Either specialties can provide good primary care. Sometimes those with multiple complex medical issues go to Internal Medicine Specialist, but many Family Doctors feel comfortable handling them also. Depending on you local medical community, sometimes Family Doctor provides more outpatient related care, while the Internist is more likely to provide hospital based services.

Need for a PCP: All 63 yr. old people need a primary care doctor ; an internist or family practitioner will fill that need. If you don't like sitting in a waiting room with children, you may prefer and Internist since they typically don't treat young children. The primary care doctor is the QB of your health care team and therefore serves a valuable function to see that you get proper care.
