Pain severity?: Many patients with twisted ovaries note that the pain makes it difficult to "laugh, talk, walk, breathe, or be touched in the abdomen". Ruptured cyst patients note a "moment of severe pain" which often passes after a few hours.A twised ovary requires immediate surgery 100% of the time and a ruptured cyst often does not. Ovarian torsion and twisted ovary are the same.

Yes, ERT does: Unopposed estrogen therapy (ert) does increase the risk of ovarian cancer. The jury is still out on HRT although the women health institute study did find that continuous combined HRT may increase the risk of ovarian cancer slightly. Keep in mind that ovarian cancer is rare, much rarer than breast cancer. See your doc for a frank talk on this.

Pain: Most ovarian cysts resolve on their own or with treatment. Occasionally, they leak the cyst fluid within (ruptured cyst) or twist (ovarian torsion). When that happens there is usually some degree of pain.
