An "8 cm ovarian cyst" contains fluid, and since the ovary is on a stalk, it can twist, which usually results in removal of the ovary. The cyst plus remaining ovary may weigh 1-2 pounds, and take months to achieve the "8 cm size". You may be advised to preserve your fertility (if such is desired) by starting on low dose oral bcp's, which also will help prevent new cysts from forming.
