Ear infection vs TMJ: If this never happened before and is new I would think an outer or middle ear infection with inflamed vessels on your ear drum-- especially if associated with decreased hearing on that side. If it is a problem that comes and goes I would think TMJ. Other things would be less common. See your doctor if not getting better.
