Usually benign: Twitching of the lid is common in the middle years. It is random and not precipitated by any known pathology. Mostly it is subtle and you can feel it but others cannot see it. Rubbing the twitching lid commonly stops it. Some think extra calcium and magnesium cut down the incidence. Be assured that it is benign and will not harm the eye or vision.

Myokymia: Random twitching of an eyelid, which happens in normal people, is called myokymia (an involuntary, spontaneous, quivering of a few muscle cell bundles within a muscle). Myokymia starts and stops spontaneously. In the eyelids, it can last a few minutes to a few days. It can be caused by stress, dry eyes, caffeine, lack of sleep. Reduce intake of alcohol/tobacco/caffeine, get rest, reduce stress.
