Myopia: People with high myopia tend to have longer eyes than average. This is associated with a increased risk of retinal tear and detachment. Just be aware of the symptoms: new floaters in the vision, flashing lights, or a dark area in your peripheral vision like a curtain. If you develop any of these symptoms see an ophthalmologist as soon as possible.

Your risk: Is increased because the nearsightedness, but this does not mean that you will have this problem. Certainly if you have symptoms such as floaters, flashes or a change in vision, you should get your eyes examined.

Chances are higher: Neg 9 means your eyes are longer than average. Your retina then needs to stretch out to cover the extra length. So you are at higher risk of retinal detachment than the average person. It's important to have routine dilated eye exams. Also, signs of retinal detachment include flashing lights, new floaters, or a dark curtain coming across your vision. See an eye doc urgently if you notice any signs.
