Possibly: Could be referred pain. If the pain is episodic and follows your neck issues, i would assume that they are related, especially since your dentist found nothing.

Nerve impingement: You had two separate conditions #1. Gums that was ruled out by a dentists and #2. Nerve impingement is a very common problem, affecting about 10-12% percent of the adult population in the us. Nerve impingement can be caused by being sandwiched between two spinal bones, pressed by a bulging disc or encroached upon by bony overgrowth. Rec.: see an interventional pain management specialist.
