Constipation: The obvious answer is constipation, but bowel obstruction &an acute process cannot be excluded. You should see your pcp &arrange for a screening colonoscopy after this acute episode subsides. Without fever, it is unlikely to be diverticulitis, but that must be considered. Hip pain: sharp abdominal pain is separate from hip bone pain. The later is associated with ligamentous problems and can be defined by pressure over the point representing area of possible inflammation. Abdominal pain can be gas pain or diverticular disease. If point tenderness located over hip region this can be relieved with xylocaine + kenalog (triamcinolone) injection.
