A few years: I would guess 10-15 years at best. It`s a process. Initially compounds are used on cancer cell lines, then animal models and finally in human trials known as phase 1, 2 and 3 trials before getting fda approval.

A LONG TIME: The drug pipeline for cancer therpy may take 5 to 7 yr to reach market and only a minority of potential therapies achieve market status. Selection trials at all phases of development are quite expensive and sometimes hard to achieve.
