Nerve impingement: Of the neck is a very common problem, affecting about 10-12% percent of the adult population in the us. Nerve impingement can be caused by being sandwiched between two spinal bones, pressed by a bulging disc or encroached upon by bony overgrowth. Rec.: see an interventional pain management specialist for further investigation.

Dental issue likely: Common things occur commonly. While impingement is possible, it is far from the most likely. More info is needed (an exam finding and xary findings). Without these, my first thought would be a dental issue origin (wisdom teeth, decay, abscess, periodontal disease, sinus involvement with referred pain) or muscular pain disorder (MFPD or TMJ). An proper exam is essential to identify your issue.
