With or w/o pain: Swollen lymph nodes may mean inflammation/infection or change in your immune status. Painful lymph nodes point to infection. If they are not painful, it would be best to get it checked by your doctor.

Should be ok: Lymph nodes typically enlarge when they are fighting infection. The nodes in your neck may have gotten larger bc of some recent cold or sore throat. This shouldn't have any impact on you spending time with your sick grandpa. Unfortunately, if he has something contagious (cold or flu) you could still get it. If your lymph nodes get larger and stay that way (few weeks), you should see your doctor.
