Probably: It is common especially in elderly to have increased neurotic dymptoms when the body is under stress because of an infection or other new health problem. This usually improves at least partially as the infection improves.

Maybe (not) . . .: I'm sorry to hear about your dad's troubles. It's good that he's in rehab for his stroke (many people refuse). It's also common to get worse from simple infections (and to recover after appropriate treatment) but also from other conditions such as imbalance of salts ; minerals as well as new medications. That's why it's important for physiatrist, neurologist ; geriatrician to work together.
