Not here: For a second opinion you will have to be physically examined. Suggest you see an endodontist.

Endo second opinion: In many cases, seeking a second opinion is not only warranted, but necessary. Unless your disease is life threatening and requires emergency care, it is never a bad idea to seek a second opinion. Getting a second opinion helps you feel more confident about your diagnosis and treatment plan. See a board certified endodontist for your treatment options..

Couple possibilities: Could be: new decay under the crown; periodontal disease; pulpitis; infection; poor occlusion; and/or fracture. Would need to know what triggers the pain, how severe, and how long it lasts; coupled with a clinical exam and radiographs. Ask your dentist how he ruled out these other possibilities. If you don't have confidence in the dentist you saw, then get a second opinion.

Second opinion: Your dentist may be right.. s/he has the luxury of exaining the tooth and viewing a radiograph. Together with a history of the tooth (root canal therapy), your dentist has made a diagnosis. If you want a meaningful second onpinion, you'll need to visit another local dentist to confirm your dentist's diagnosis. Guessing over the internet is not going to help you.

See another: See another Dentist for 2nd opinion. Usually with a cracked tooth concern this would be the Endodontist, as a root canal MIGHT be appropriate or another general Dentist or a Prosthodontist. Will need x-ray imaging and possibly 3D (CBCT) ct scan to get best evaluation. Good Luck.

Possibly: Why was the tooth crowned? It may have been cracked before the crown was placed. If it is a vertical fracture down the root, the tooth may need to be extracted. Fractured teeth can be difficult to definitively diagnose. Has the tooth had root canal treatment? If so is it still temperature sensitive? That would be a sign of a fractured tooth.
