Can contrast used in chest ct stays in the body (lungs) and cause harm? worried about radiation risk from contrast.

No radiation risk: Contrast intravenously has no radiation risk. A few people are allergic to contrast material. Radiation exposure is from the ct examination which uses x-rays or ionizing irradiation. In an adult one exam does not pose significant risk. Multiple exams in short periods of time particularly in growing children adds greater risk for development of cancer.

No: Contrast utilized in chest ct is usually iv, excreted by kidneys in normal person. Contrast is not radioactive.
