Its up to you: only you can change this behavior. most probably you are causing irreversible damage that can lead to a cascade of other problems. You already know it is wrong, but you like it. I hate to be so blunt..but this is a behavioral issue and its all up to you.

See your hygienist: It seems that you are hurting instead of helping your teeth and gums when you brush. You are brushing too hard and too aggressive brushing can be traumatic for sensitive gums, causing irritation, bleeding and recession. See your hygienist for instructions.
