Use a soft brush, brush lightly including the gums even if they bleed, and use floss. Over time, they will stop bleeding. Make sure to follow up with your dentist.

Sounds like gingivitis or a more serious form of gum disease called periodontitis. A thorough exam by your dentist can determine the source of your bleeding gums. The dentist and hygienist can treat this condition or refer you to a periodontist if needed.
