If my child and i got exposed to strep throat in the daycare, how likely are we to get it within a week?

POSSIBLE: Difficult to assess degree of likelihood not knowing the means of exposure, etc. Many of us carry strep asymptomatically in our nose and throat without its producing disease.

50/50: Strep is very contagious and the time period from exposure to getting the illness is between 3-7 days and sometimes a little longer. But exposure does not mean he will get it.

Common problem: There are folks who carry strep in their throat year round without ever having disease. Studies estimate this as 5% in the summer and up to 30% in the winter. That means every kid in day care with > 20 kids always has strep around.Transfer rates within families vary form 20-50% within a week.
