What role do viruses play with ms?

Uncertain: Much interest recently in epstein barr virus (ebv), the virus causing mononucleosis and its association with future risk of developing ms. Other viruses have been looked at but so far none have shown a consistent link to the risk of developing ms.

MS: Viruses have not been associated with ms which is an autoimmune disease directed against the nervous system. Although it is possible to make antibodies to a viral infection that can then become autoimmune antibodies. It is not entirely impossible but it is almost impossible to prove.

Potentially,: An environmental trigger, and the one most implicated is Ebstein-Barr which can cause infectious mononucleosis, but also maybe herpes zoster. Some researchers have thought that a viral infection ushers in the disease, but a specific infection has never been established beyond the above correlations.
