Zero: Local anesthetics are given to numb the area completely and therefore you should not feel anything for the procedure. Nitrous Oxide\Oxygen or IV sedation is also available for the very anxious patient. Some soreness afterwards is to be expected which can be handled with an appropriate OTC or prescription pain medication.

Painless : Sorry to hear, but having a tooth pulled is sometimes necessary. Before extraction, your dentist will use a local anesthetic to numb the area where the tooth will be removed. If you are anxious, your dentist may use IV sedation that will prevent pain completely and make you sleep through the procedure. Anesthesia is the key. Good luck.

Depends on infection: extraction usually does not hurt during since you are anesthetized. after you should take Ibuprofen and Aspirin for 1 - 2 days. Pain during or after extraction is not normal and is usually due to infection which requires antibiotics. If this is anticipated it is best to start antibiotics and anti-inflammatory 1 - 48 hours before
