Possibly normal: It may be too early to see the embryo. Your doctor may order a quantitative beta-hcg to see if the levels are rising appropriately. A repeat ultrasound in 4-7 days could also be done to check the progress of the pregnancy.

Yes: It is likely that the doctor did a routine pelvic us as opposed to transvaginal us. A fetal pole is usually not see before 6-7 weeks with a pelvic us. It can be seen earlier with a transvaginal us.
