Galactorrhea: Men and women both have "milk ducts, " but a different hormonal environment leads to milk production in women only. Lactation is the true production of milk that occurs during pregnancy when Progesterone levels are high and stimulate maturation of the milk producing glands. Outside this setting, we worry about tumors and hormonal imbalances (prolactin) that lead to galactorrhea (nipple discharge).
